Learn how to install the Yale Assure Lock 2 Touchscreen bundle with Norwood Lever. Step-by-step setup, common mistakes, and pro tips for a secure front door.

Quick answer

The Yale Assure Lock 2 Touchscreen bundle with Norwood Lever is designed for DIY installation on a standard front door. Follow these steps to mount the touchscreen keypad, pair the lever, and test the smart lock features.

Before you start: compatibility and tools

Make sure your door is prepped for a standard deadbolt and lever set. The bundle works with most wood or metal doors with a 2-1/8" bore hole and 1" edge hole. You will need a Phillips screwdriver and a level.

Check that the door closes properly without binding. A misaligned strike plate is the most common cause of later problems.

Understanding the bundle components

The kit includes the touchscreen keypad module, interior escutcheon, Norwood lever exterior and interior handles, latch assembly, strike plate, mounting screws, and batteries. A Wi-Fi module is integrated so you can connect to the Yale Access app out of the box.

Step-by-step installation

  1. 1. Remove existing hardware: Take off your old deadbolt or lock and lever. Mark the screw locations for reference later. Remove the old latch and strike plate. Check that the bore holes are 2-1/8" for the body and 1" for the latch. If not, contact a professional.
  2. 2. Install the latch and strike plate: Insert the latch so the beveled side faces the door frame. Secure it with the included screws. Mount the strike plate on the door frame, aligning it with the latch. Tighten screws just enough — over-tightening can warp the metal and cause the latch to drag.
  3. 3. Mount the exterior keypad assembly: Feed the cable from the exterior keypad through the center bore hole. Place the mounting plate against the door and secure with the provided screws. The cable should lie flat without kinks. If the gasket is not flush against the door, moisture can enter — reposition until it seals completely.
  4. 4. Attach the interior escutcheon and lever: Connect the cable from the exterior to the interior escutcheon connector. Press the escutcheon flat against the door. Insert the Norwood lever through the interior side and secure it with the set screw using the included hex wrench. Do not pinch the cable between the escutcheon and the door. A pinched wire will cause intermittent failures.
  5. 5. Insert batteries and test manually: Install four AA batteries into the interior compartment. Replace the battery cover. Test the lever operation — the interior lever should retract the latch smoothly, and the exterior lever should feel solid. If the lever feels loose after testing, recheck the set screw. A loose lever may wear down the mechanism over time.
  6. 6. Pair with the Yale Access app: Download the Yale Access app on your smartphone (iOS or Android). Create an account or sign in. Tap "Add Device" and scan the QR code on the interior escutcheon or manual. Follow the in-app prompts to connect to Wi-Fi. Place your phone 5–10 ft from the lock during pairing to avoid connection timeouts.
  7. 7. Configure Auto-Lock and DoorSense: In the app, enable Auto-Lock and set the delay (default is 30 seconds). Calibrate DoorSense by opening and closing the door as prompted — this ensures the lock knows when the door is fully shut. If Auto-Lock fails to engage, re-calibrate DoorSense. An uncalibrated door will not trigger the auto-lock reliably.
