Install the Yale Assure Lock 2 Plus with Wi-Fi in your vacation rental in under 30 minutes. Follow these steps for a secure, keyless setup that saves you time.

Quick Answer

Install the Yale Assure Lock 2 Plus with Wi-Fi in about 30 minutes using just a screwdriver. The lock fits standard deadbolt doors and connects to your Wi-Fi for remote code management.

Before You Begin: Check Door Compatibility

The Yale Assure Lock 2 Plus requires a standard single-bore deadbolt door with a 2-1/8-inch cross bore and a 1-inch latch bore. Measure your door's backset (2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inches) and thickness (1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches) to ensure a match. If your door uses a mortise lock or has a non-standard bore, you may need a professional installer or a different lock model.

Tools and Parts You'll Need

You only need a Phillips-head screwdriver. The lock comes with all mounting hardware, including screws, a strike plate, and a deadbolt latch. Keep the interior and exterior assemblies, the mounting plate, and the included batteries handy.

Installation Steps

  1. Remove Your Existing Deadbolt Lock: Unscrew the interior and exterior escutcheons, then detach the deadbolt latch and strike plate. Keep the door's existing deadbolt hole intact—the Yale lock uses the same 1-inch latch bore. Don't discard the old screws; you may reuse them if the new ones don't fit your door's backset.
  2. Install the Deadbolt Latch and Strike Plate: Insert the new deadbolt latch (included) into the door edge, ensuring the bevel faces the door stop. Secure it with the two provided screws. Then attach the strike plate to the door frame. Check that the latch slides smoothly before tightening fully; a misaligned latch can cause binding.
  3. Mount the Exterior Assembly: Feed the cable from the exterior keypad through the top hole of the mounting plate, then align the plate over the latch hole. Secure with the provided screws on the interior side. Ensure the cable is not pinched between the plate and the door—this can damage the wire during later steps.
  4. Attach the Interior Assembly: Connect the cable from the exterior to the interior assembly's port. Align the interior unit over the mounting plate and tighten the two retaining screws. Insert four AA batteries. Test the keypad and thumb turn immediately. If the lock doesn't respond, check the cable connection—it's the most common issue.
  5. Connect to Wi-Fi and Set Up Access Codes: Press the Wi-Fi button on the interior module, then open the Yale Access app. Follow the in-app prompts to join your network and create a master code. Add guest codes and enable Auto-Lock with DoorSense. Place the lock within 30-50 feet of your router during setup. A weak signal can cause intermittent disconnections later.
  6. Test All Functions: Lock and unlock the door using the keypad, thumb turn, and app. Verify that Auto-Lock engages after the door closes (DoorSense must detect the door closed). If DoorSense doesn't trigger, adjust the magnet alignment on the door frame. The gap should be less than 1/2 inch.
